Former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was known in the NFL for being respectful to his opponents. When he was hit hard, instead of being angry, he would compliment the opposing players for their good play. Luck was also very respectful to himself when he chose to retire from the NFL. He had suffered a number of injuries and respected himself and his body enough to recognize that it was time to stop playing in the NFL.
Tabei was the first woman to climb Mt. Everest. She respected this mountain and the opportunity she had to climb it and many others, and organized efforts to clean up the litter that is left on the mountain every year, and continued this work on other mountains too. She was a teacher, and after the 2011 earthquake in Japan, she led annual trips for children to hike Mt. Fuji. Tabei respected her own power and knowledge as a mountaineer, and respected the environment that she was able to experience through her adventures.
