Who Are Fivers?

The name “Fiver” comes from a courageous rabbit who led his community with resilience and determination. Similarly, our participants, proudly called “Fivers,” embody that spirit as they overcome challenges, make positive choices, and pursue success.

Through summer camp, year-round programs, and personalized support, Fivers build the skills, confidence, and connections to create lasting change. At Fiver, we proudly say, once a Fiver, always a Fiver, a bond alumni carry into their lives and communities beyond the 10-year program.

Where Are Fivers From?

Fiver serves youth primarily from New York City through partnerships with local public schools and community-based organizations, which help identify participants who can benefit most from our holistic programming. These partnerships span neighborhoods from the South Bronx and Harlem/Inwood to Jackson Heights and East New York.

Approximately 15% of Fivers live near our summer camp in Central New York, in rural Madison and Chenango counties, where participants are primarily referred through local public schools.

We now reserve a limited number of spots for youth who fit our target age and demographic groups but are not referred through partners, reducing barriers to entry for those who need it most.

Who Does Fiver Serve?

Fiver is deeply committed to breaking down barriers to opportunity. All participants qualify for free or reduced lunch, upon referral to the program through our community partners. A considerable number of Fivers come from families where younger sibling(s) join the program alongside their older sibling(s), ensuring the entire family benefits from Fiver’s support. Our approach is holistic, fostering meaningful connections not just with individual participants but with their families. This ensures a strong foundation of support that amplifies the impact of our programming.
