Fiver has established an immersive culture with a common language, norms, artifacts, and practices that become embedded in the hearts of children, staff and everyone who becomes involved. Participants don’t just attend our programs, they become ‘Fivers’ and quickly discover that being a Fiver means striving to be the best version of one’s self.
Introduced to all participants upon enrollment with Fiver, our unique Whole Self curriculum provides a language to positively understand and articulate current struggles, successes, life-style choices, and future goals. Embedded into this language are the social and emotional learning (SEL) skills children need to become literate in who they are and how they wish to relate to the greater world around them.
Our Whole Self curriculum guides participants through a series of age appropriate activities that develop their understanding of these attributes. Each year, camp culminates with the Fiver Dog Tag Ceremony. Counselors recognize which attribute Fivers best exemplify. Participants take pride in their dog tags; often wearing them throughout the summer and at events during the academic year.
