Camp Fiver to Reopen in 2021

Dear Fiver friends,

CAMP FIVER-31.jpg

It is with joy and optimism that we share with you our decision to reopen Camp Fiver to in-person campers this summer.

We want you to know that we have thoughtfully investigated the risks and planned out preventative safety measures before deciding to reopen in 2021. We have listened to and learned from medical and youth development professionals, Fiver staff, youth, parents, board members, and alumni. We have consulted with camps that opened safely in 2020 and have familiarized ourselves with the COVID-safety Field Guide for Camps, developed by the American Camp Association, as well as the latest science regarding testing, vaccinations and non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Some things will be different this summer.

We will limit camp, cabin and bus capacity to fifty-percent or less at a time. We will require mask-wearing, social-distancing and vaccinations for staff. We will implement a cohort-model for all activities and will stagger mealtimes.

Some things will be the same.

We will surround each child with compassion, role models, nature, and Fiver spirit. Children will spend as much time as possible outdoors, exploring the creek, the lake, the sprawling fields, and the wooded hiking trails. They will ride horses, catch fish, practice public speaking, explore their college options, and build meaningful connections with peers and counselors.

Thank you for your trust and support. We will share more details about our reopen plans in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please feel free to connect with us at christie@fiver.org and tom@fiver.org to share your thoughts.

Fiverly,
Tom, Christie + the Fiver Team
