What’s New: Fiver Programs
Fiver Family Spotlight
The Hernandez family exemplifies what it means to be a Fiver. Hugo and Alicia, parents to Fiver Alumna Dulce and Fiver participants Alix and Danali, participated in our 2019 Giving Tuesday Campaign and have been Fiver donors since 2009.
In addition to fundraising, the Hernandez Family consistently attends Fiver events; from parent workshops, to the family retreat, to family events, the Hernandez Family is there with smiles on their faces. We want to take a moment to thank them for being so helpful and supportive of Fiver’s programs and mission.
Allianz Fellowship
Since 2006, thanks to the Allianz Foundation of North America, Fiver has provided a total of 26 high school age Fivers with invaluable, hands-on work experience through the Allianz Fellowship Program. This academic year Fiver is excited to have Jady J. and Malachi G. as Allianz Fellows.
Each year our Allianz Fellows focus on a project to enhance an aspect of Fiver Programming. The 2019-2020 fellows are working to enhance Fiver’s character education curriculum. Serving as Character Cultivators, the fellows have been using their years of experience with the Fiver program to enhance and streamline the embodiment of our 12 Character Attributes.
Work Learn Grow (WLG)
Fiver is excited to announce our participation as a WLG site! WLG is a New York City Council-funded initiative designed to provide participants who are between the ages of 16-21 and currently in-school with career readiness training and paid employment opportunities. Tenth-grader Nicole P. (pictured top left) and Twelfth-graders Andy A. and Denville A. will be joining the Fiver team in March as Program Administrative Assistants. Our new team members will be assisting Fiver’s Program Team with the day-to-day office needs and planning Family Events.
By working closely with Fiver’s Program Team, our WLG students will learn how to manage projects and gain valuable experience as youth program leaders. Furthermore, they will be introduced to the Operations and Development departments to learn about their valuable contributions to Fiver’s mission.
Fiver Program Updates
Our 2019 Holiday Party was a huge success! We hosted a record number of attendees with over 120 Fivers and Fiver Family Members, along with volunteers from from White + Case and Fiver Alumni. The turnout, on a rainy evening, was a testament to our Fiver Community.
2020 started off strong with our Martin Luther King Day of Service. This year we partnered with Change for Kids and participated in service projects at P.S. 6 West Farms School in the Bronx. Fiver students, family members, staff, alumni, and volunteers came together to complete service projects in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Over 50 members of our Fiver community attended MLK Day of Service!
