A Look Back At Summer 2020

Camp WiFiver: A Success

While this year’s summer camp definitely looked different than any year before, it was firmly rooted in the Fiver tradition. The core of Camp Fiver is the relationships established between participants and staff, and the culture of Fiver attributes. In place of traditional summer camp, Camp WiFiver placed an emphasis on these relationships, character development and culture.  We provided opportunities for youth to bond with peers, mentors and positive role models who allowed them to see possibility beyond their current circumstances.

This summer 343 children, ages 8-18 experienced two weeks of our character cultivating programming online by participating in Camp WiFiver. This included thousands of visits to our Camp WiFiver website and 10,014 hours of live Camp WiFiver programming. One participant shared, “the energy and the love was the same. I enjoyed filling my days, at Camp WIFIver, with purpose and happiness”.

Family Retreats

This summer we were still able to offer our physical camp space for socially distant two-night retreats for Fiver families to spend time away from home, in beautiful central New York.  Families reserved a cabin and were able to enjoy self-guided leisure time such as fishing and boating at the lake, swimming in the pool, hiking the trails, playing sports and stargazing around a campfire. This summer, 138 participants and family members visited Camp Fiver. One Fiver parent shared, “the retreat gave us the permission we needed to relax and forget about the world and its atrocities. Our brains needed a moment to refresh, our emotions needed to be guided, and our mental health was beginning to suffer”.
