What’s New: Fiver Programs

Programs Recap

In February we held our annual Valentine’s Day Party for our Fiver Families. The evening included a visit from Pupscouts, karaoke, arts and crafts, a photobooth, games, and lots of delicious food.

During February break, Fiver students enjoyed character-cultivating trips and activities like the ones below:

  • 5th and 6th grade Fivers attended a local farmer’s market to learn about healthy eating and purchased ingredients to make their own healthy snack.

  • 5th through 8th grade Fivers participated in a self-care workshop that included a yoga lesson, a session with therapy dogs, creating vision boards, and making their own sensory bottles and body scrubs.

  • High School Fivers participated in a workshop with nXu on finding one’s purpose and strengths. NXu education is a youth purpose organization whose mission is to catalyze a diverse community of youth to explore, articulate, and pursue their purpose.

Also during February break high school age Fivers participated in week-long internships. Below are highlights from February’s Internship Program:

  • 20 of our 9th - 12th grade participants were placed in internships in the customer service, finance, marketing, nonprofit, fashion & design, and higher education industries.

  • Fiver Interns shared that they developed skills in team building, decision making, verbal & written communication, prioritizing tasks, and professionalism.

  • One Fiver Intern shared, “I learned that a successful corporation has both people who are seen by the public and a group that is not seen,  but also does a huge amount of work to make sure the corporation is thriving”.

  • When asked to describe what strengths they saw in their Fiver interns, one Internship Host shared, “They were both smart, creative, ambitious and worked hard during their internship”!

Fiver Family Spotlight

The Perez-Trinidad family are “Fiver Famous” for attending all Fiver Family events, including our annual family retreat. In recent weeks, they have been attending our virtual hangouts. The Perez-Trinidad’s are always the first to volunteer alongside Fiver staff, uplifting our Fiver spaces, and energizing anyone they interact with. Nicole worked as a Programs Assistant from October 2019- February 2020 and her parents supported and encouraged her every step of the way.  The Perez-Trinidad family are true community builders, using their sense of humor, positive attitude to bring our Fiver community.
